Modern Shingle Renovation

Back To Projects

What started out merely as a build-out of unfinished attic spaces into additional bedrooms for a young family turned into a complete gut renovation of this large, suburban Atlanta estate. The home’s shingle-style exterior appealed to the family that summers yearly on the coast of Maine, but the interior was a complete disconnect and looked more like a Tuscan villa – complete with rough stucco walls and warm, golden hues. In addition space planning and reconfiguring all three levels of the home, the task was to relate the exterior style to its interior aesthetic. The family dreamed of clean lines and a crisp, but refined, color palette reminiscent of the homes they would occupy every summer. They loved classic Shingle style, but wanted it to be “updated” to reflect their busy, modern lifestyle and the vibrant energy of their young family. Stucco was replaced with beadboard and creamy hues were traded for bright white, cool greys, and warm wood tones. Simple shaker cabinetry and paneling keep visual lines clean and uncomplicated. The interior and exterior now are in complete sync, not the jarring contrast that they once were.
